Putnam County Schools and Conner Street are committed to the safety and education of all our students. Essential to this commitment is open communication with our families and school community about potential concerns when they arise. For this reason, I wanted to share some information regarding unsubstantiated or rumored threats circulating on a social media messaging platform. Please rest assured that we take all threats seriously. Upon notification of reported threats, we contact law enforcement immediately to investigate any threat and its validity. The reported messages are being investigated and appear to be similar to other threats or messages being spread throughout our region. We understand that situations like this can be concerning, and we want to assure you that we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all. Putnam County Schools will continue to work closely with local law enforcement, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security’s School Safety Unit to monitor any situation, should it arise, to ensure our school remains a safe place for learning. Once again, we want to emphasize our unwavering commitment to the safety of our students and staff. We are grateful for the support and collaboration of our school communities and law enforcement agencies. Together, we will continue to work diligently to keep our schools safe and secure. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly at Conner Street. Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to keep our school community safe.

2024 WVGSA Student Assessment Results Available in Online Family Portal Student assessment results for the 2024 West Virginia General Summative Assessment are now available in the online Family Portal. Putnam County Schools will provide a unique access code for each student who took the WVGSA in grades 3-8. This code will allow students and their parents/guardians to access student test results by logging into the online Family Portal. We are sending this information through the student email address and the parent/guardian email address(es) on file for the student. The Family Portal will provide better access to student test results for parents/guardians. It will include detailed information about student performance in math, English language arts, and science, as well as access to Lexile and Quantile measures and the Lexile/Quantile Growth Plan. Additional resources to help explain student performance and to help parents and guardians provide support to their students will be included. To further assist parents/guardians in understanding their student’s performance on the WVGSA, in addition to the results provided in the Family Portal, an individual video score report also is available. Putnam County Schools will also provide a unique link to each student’s video report in that same email. Please look for this important email today, August 29, 2004, at 4:00pm. If parents and guardians need help in accessing the family portal or the video score report, they may contact their child’s school administrator(s). Thank you!

Hello, Conner Street Families, we have survived the first two days of school. Just a few items on today’s call. Thank you to those of you that are continuously following our drop-off procedures. For those of you using Washington Avenue, please use Shank or Seymour. The traffic on Washington, as well as parents blocking the DO NOT BLOCK area is causing our buses to be late to their next stops or schools. There is no school on September 2nd, in honor of Labor Day. Our PreK starts on Tuesday, September 3rd. Getting your student to school on time is vital for a successful day, please do your best to help your child be on time for school. The links for the online forms have been sent out, but if you need paper copies just let your child’s homeroom teacher know. Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon, Conner Street Families. Just a reminder that Open House starts tonight at 4:00 pm. All of you, except for newly enrolled students, should have received a call last week with the name of your child’s teacher. I will also have a list at the front door, for those of you that did not receive the call. The link for completing forms online will be sent out on the first day of school, so we will not be able to have those stations set up this evening. If you are going to need paper copies, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know. Also, make sure to take your pictures this evening, because all parents will need to stay in their cars on the first day of school. See you in a bit!

Hello, Conner Street Families, as promised we have a ton of information on tonight‘s callout. Yes, I do realize it is a day earlier than normal, but most of you are excited to get all of this information. Please bear with me. • Just a reminder open house is August 20 from 4-6 PM. We’re also hosting a fundraiser in conjunction with Pizza Hut. Simply place an order, mention Conner Street and we will get a percentage of the profits. • The first day of school for students grades K through five is August 22. Students may be dropped off at school starting at 7:10 AM and the school day does start at 7:30 AM. Anyone arriving after 7:30 must be brought into the building by their parent and anyone arriving after 7:40 is tardy. • County policies have been updated, any student who is chronically tardy or absent and is attending out of zone will be required to return to their homeschool. • Some state policies have been updated regarding attendance. Parents now have three days after an absence to turn in a student excuse. I’m sure most of you will appreciate that. Also, if a student reaches three unexcused absences you will receive a call from the school to discuss absences. Continued unexcused absences will result in more steps being taken to address those absences. • Putnam County will be rolling out two different technology upgrades. The first will allow parents and guardians to fill out most of the beginning of the year forms online. You should be receiving a link, if you haven’t already, via text or email that will allow you to complete these forms completely online. For those of you who are unable to do so, you may request a paper copy from the school. We will also attempt to have several laptops set up at open house for those of you who unable to complete the forms on their own devices. The second is a new feature on buses that will eventually allow parents to track the location of the bus. This will definitely help out on those cold mornings when you don’t want your child waiting at the bus stop too long. It will also be great when we have a bus that pulls out late or is stuck in traffic. • We are very fortunate that we will have free breakfast and lunch for all students again this year. Students will still need to pay $.35 if they want an extra milk. Since all students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch, you will not need to fill out the free and reduced lunch form. We will be doing a boxed lunch option again this year, they will only be one day a week. Once we have that day chosen and the menu set, that will be added to the callouts. • Drop off will be very chaotic the first few days of school. Parents will need to stay in their vehicles. Anyone wanting a picture in front of the school will need to do so at open house. Also, please make sure to follow our traffic pattern. Last year we had several issues with parents not following directions and causing traffic backups that prevented our buses from exiting the circle. • At dismissal, which is 2:30 pm, please follow our Pickup procedures. We load buses, then cars, and then dismiss walkers. Drop off and pick up maps will be posted outside of the school at open house. Also, just a reminder to those parents who have students in grades three and below, they are unable to walk home or get off the bus by themselves. An adult must be there to get them, or they may be with an older sibling. • You will receive a second call this evening, with the name of your child’s teacher for the school year. Just a reminder students in grades 3-5 rotate through all grade level teachers. I am sure I have forgotten something, so I will be doing another call early next week just to do final reminders before the first day of school. Have a great weekend.
